Mr. Asmit Neupane | Conservation | Best Researcher Award
Mr. Asmit Neupane completed his Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Tribhuvan University, Institute of Forestry, Pokhara Campus, Nepal, from 2018 to 2023. During his undergraduate studies, he focused on key courses such as Forest Management and Economics, Forest Ecology, Biodiversity Conservation, and Remote Sensing and GIS. His academic research culminated in a thesis titled “Spatial Distribution and Habitat Preference of Indian Pangolin (Manis crassicaudata) in Madhesh Province, Nepal,” showcasing his strong research skills and passion for wildlife conservation. He achieved an impressive percentage of 79.70% in his coursework, reflecting his dedication to his studies. Prior to this, he completed his higher education at Srijana Higher Secondary School in Pokhara, where he pursued the science faculty with biology as his main subject, further laying the foundation for his career in environmental sciences.
Work Experience 💼:
Mr. Asmit Neupane has accumulated diverse experience in environmental conservation and research, which reflects his commitment to both practical and academic aspects of forestry. From August 2023 to August 2024, he worked as a Program Officer at Green Governance Nepal, where he managed biodiversity conservation projects and engaged local communities in restoration efforts, including leading a team for the restoration of Pine forests in Mustang district. In addition to his role as a program officer, Mr. Neupane has gained valuable research experience as a Research Assistant at the University of Helsinki (Nov 2023 – Feb 2024), working on a project focused on human-wildlife conflict in the buffer zones of Nepal’s protected areas. He has also served as a Field Enumerator for several projects, including the University of Western Australia’s study on the socio-economic impacts of buffer zone policies and the ILaM project on wildlife-induced damage in Nepal’s protected areas. His earlier roles, such as his work with Muktinath Darshan Pvt. Ltd. and the Forest Research and Training Centre in Kathmandu, have further strengthened his research, data collection, and environmental impact assessment skills.
Research Interests:
Mr. Asmit Neupane’s research interests lie at the intersection of biodiversity conservation, human-wildlife conflict, and forest management. His primary focus is on understanding the spatial distribution and habitat preferences of species, particularly in relation to human-wildlife conflict and forest ecosystems. He has worked extensively on assessing the impact of conservation policies and strategies, such as the buffer zone policy in Nepal, and exploring how landscape variables influence human-wildlife interactions. His research also extends to the restoration of degraded forest ecosystems, climate change adaptation, and carbon sequestration. Mr. Neupane is passionate about integrating community-based conservation approaches and utilizing advanced techniques like GIS, remote sensing, and statistical analysis to inform sustainable forest management practices.
